Giving Back Update | 2021

In February 2020 Alex and I were close to signing a lease on a new, bigger location on Milwaukee. We were excited to start making plans for the space and were days away from signing a lease. Things took longer than we had anticipated to finish the paperwork, which was a blessing in disguise. We still hadn’t signed anything when Chicago shutdown in March. Things were rough in the early days for us, like most of you as well. We had to scrap our plan for expanding, put away our spreadsheets of equipment and drawings for where to put stuff. At the time, we were mostly concerned about the health of our family & friends, but we were starting to worry about the business and how we were going to make it through. Two things confirmed to us that we were going to be ok and it was 100% because of our awesome community.

  • We started hosting free Friday night workouts that included meditation by the talented Sara and a fun happy hour time to socialize. It was so rewarding to connect with everyone who joined the fun and the healthy distraction it provided. Our Friday night hangouts provided wonderful space for us to feel safe and supported.

  • We also had some of our awesome current and past members purchase sessions or make a financial contribution which was incredibly generous. We paid it forward often to our favorite local businesses and we appreciated how much a small contribution can make an impact.

Almost a year after we were going to sign a lease on Milwaukee, we started making plans at our Fullerton location and knew that we were going to contribute to organizations that are important to us. Each month we highlight a group that is doing awesome and important work. We donate a percentage of our gym memberships each month. You can get involved by joining our community workouts. 100% of proceeds from each class is donated.

Thank you for being awesome,

Logan Square Mutual Aid is part of a city-wide mutual aid effort, organized neighborhood by neighborhood. We all live here in Logan Square, and, when the coronavirus broke out in Chicago, many of us began looking for ways to contribute what we could to our neighbors. Seeing as we are stronger together, we are excited to join forces here.

We contributed $828 in November to the Logan Square Mutual Fund. Donate directly here.

Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. The money we raise in October will be donated to Brave Space Alliance so they can expand their programming and service their community.

We contributed $746 in October to Brave Space Alliance. Donate directly here.

SB 8 bans abortion as early as 6 weeks and put a minimum of a $10,000 bounty on anyone that helps someone obtain an abortion in Texas. This law specifically targets abortion funds, which help Texans pay for their procedure and get logistical help like a ride to the clinic. Ensuring safe abortion care is essential. We chipped in for Texas Abortion Funds in September. Our contribution was split between 10 recipients.

We contributed $608 in September for Texas Abortion Funds. Donate directly here.

Terry, one of our members since 2014 started the Jackson Chance Foundation (JCF) with his wife Carrie. The foundation partners with hospitals to provide complimentary parking passes to families with a baby in the NICU. It may sound like such a small thing, but parking passes can cost up to $1,000 a month for families and this ensures that families don't have the additional financial burden of paying for parking. We think it's pretty awesome.

We donated $540 in August to Jackson Chance Foundation. Donate directly here

Hope For The Day® was created to honor all the friends and family members who had died by suicide. Founded in 2011, HFTD started in Chicago music venues doing outreach. Since those humble beginnings, we have evolved and grown to pioneer programming that we call Proactive Prevention. Through outreach and mental health education, we strive to empower early intervention on mental health challenges and disrupt the highest risk factors for suicide.

We donated $348 in July to Hope for the Day. Donate directly here
